The goal of this class is to gain a deeper understanding of the structure and anatomy of the human figure. Through the process of building a figure in clay we explore the human body in space as a permanent object. Studying both the deep underlying structures of the skeleton as well as the larger geometry of the body. Particular attention is directed to principles of anatomy, gesture, proportion, mass and volume. Practical demonstrations will be given with special focus on the sequential breakdown of the forms of the body, understanding the interlocking and wedging of form and their rhythmic relationships.
The class is open to sculptors of all levels as well as painters that want to learn more about anatomy and the figure in 3D. No previous experience required. Individual attention will be given to each student to help them achieve their goals.
