What you'll learn in this indian cooking class:

Aloo Paratha (bread) with Cucumber Raita (Dip) – Vegetarian


Ah, the cuisine of India! And the aroma of its spices! It made the Europeans salivate and their daring explorers risk their lives to find a sea route to India! That remarkable cuisine is now yours to create and enjoy through this class.

This delicious whole wheat Indian paratha (bread) is stuffed with potatoes that are seasoned with spices. It is a soul-filling dish that’s hard to resist. Typically this paratha is made with ghee (clarified butter) and served with a dollop of butter, and/or Indian pickles. We will be using oil instead and will be making a cucumber-yogurt raita (dip) to go with the bread.

This class will be limited to 8 people for an intimate experience.


Ingredients for Aloo Paratha (3 to 4 parathas)

· About 4 medium potatoes

· 1 green chili

· ¼ teaspoon Amchur powder (dry mango powder) (optional)

· ¼ to ½ of Chaat Masala (optional)

· ½ to ¾ teaspoon Garam Masala

· 1 to 2 tablespoons chopped fresh coriander leaves

· ½ teaspoon Ajwain (Carom Seeds) or Cumin Seeds

· A pinch red chili powder (optional)

· Salt

· 1 ¼ cup whole wheat flour

· Oil

· Butter (optional)


Ingredients for the Cucumber Raita

· 1 Cucumber (1 cup chopped)

· 1-2 cups plain yogurt

· ¼ to ½ teaspoon Cumin powder

· ¼ to ½ teaspoon Coriander powder

· ¼ teaspoon Chaat masala (optional)

· 1 tablespoon chopped Coriander leaves

· Mint to garnish (optional)


NOTE: You will need a skillet and a rolling pin or something equivalent.

Tickets are typically non-refundable, with the following exceptions: if we canceled the event, there is an event change (artist, date, venue, painting) and for some emergencies.

Tickets may be transferred into another event with available seating as long as the start of the event is more than 48 hours away. 

If you cancel/transfer within 48 hours of the start of an event, you incur a late cancellation fee.

If you’re unable to attend this event for any reason, we suggest you send a friend in your place (but we really hope to see you there!). The name on the ticket doesn't need to be changed, the guest attending will just need to give the name on the ticket at check in and will be all set to participate!

Emergencies:

We do understand that life can make things really difficult. We will make some exceptions to the above cancellation period for National Weather Service-issued weather advisories or medical emergencies. We do ask for as much notice as you can manage in these situations.

    Sheela was a fantastic cooking teacher! Her love of Indian recipes is very evident in the way she teaches. It was great to hear factoids about Indian cooking, and I loved that the recipe was on the healthier side (vegetarian and whole wheat flour).
