Herbal Infusions & Decoctions: Understanding Botanical Preparation is an educational class designed to introduce students to the fundamental principles of preparing botanicals using traditional water-based extraction methods. Students will explore the differences between herbal infusions and decoctions, learn how preparation techniques vary depending on the plant material, and develop a foundational understanding of how water temperature, steeping time, simmering, and preparation methods influence the resulting herbal preparations.
This class is divided into two learning sections. Part 1 consists of a one-hour live virtual streaming session that covers theoretical concepts, instructor explanations, and an interactive question-and-answer segment. Students will have the opportunity to ask questions and strengthen their understanding of botanical preparation principles.
Part 2 consists of a self-paced online learning experience. Students will log into their Peach Academy student account and complete four course modules that expand on the concepts introduced during the live session. Through structured educational content, students will explore botanical selection, preparation techniques, equipment, safe handling practices, and the differences between various herbal extraction methods.
By combining live instruction with independent online learning, this class provides a flexible educational experience for beginners and individuals interested in learning more about traditional herbal preparation. Upon completing both sections, students will have a stronger foundational understanding of herbal infusions and decoctions and the considerations involved in preparing them responsibly.
