Sewing & Textile Classes in Chicago are rated 4.5 stars based on 123 verified reviews from actual CourseHorse.com purchasers.

  • Samaya was fabulous! She was so patient and sweet. Her instructions were perfectly simple and straightforward, yet never condescending. A true professional, I would refer anyone to her and hope to take more courses from her. I learned so much in such a short period.
  • The instructor was great. Good pace.
  • Great intro into sewing basics. Very laid back and comfortable atmosphere.
  • Instructor communicated well and was knowledgeable.
  • Enjoyed learning the art of wet felting. Will definitely sign up for another class.
  • The course was fun! Well organized, clear instructions and positive feedback. I love the pumpkin I made. My only criticism is that there is insufficient handicap parking at the learning center. In my opinion, all of the spaces right at the learning center should be reserved for handicapped people.
  • I enjoyed this basic course very much! Teachers are very fun and inspiring. In each class, there is a project and 3 hours passes pretty quickly. There are many students of different skill levels, and it is still low pressure even if you don't know much about sewing. I was very confused to use a sewing machine before taking this class, but became a little more confident. Still a lot to learn :)
  • I really enjoyed this class and will sign up for others
  • This course was awesome. The instructor was amazing and very patient. I plan to take the Intro II class to keep learning how to crochet.
  • Instruction was great, loved the hands on technique, and was right on pace with my learning. I was knitting in no time, even went home and knitted for another few hours.
  • The instructor was knowledgeable and patient. I was able to get examples, practice and encouragement. I look forward to another class, I would like to know how to read crochet patterns or perhaps learn how to make some other items.
  • I loved this class! It was awesome to meet people out of state and learn different concepts with them. The instructor shared plenty of background and topics that broadened my expression. Wish there was a second two offered remotely. Would recommend to any one who loves working with fabrics.
  • Akimi was wonderful! I really enjoyed this class! Hope you will consider another Boro Stitching class taking up where this one left off! Thank you so much!
  • Loved this class!! Brought home. Beautiful hand made scarf. Learned so much
  • I was very satisfied with the class and the instructor. I learned what I need to get going on creating my scarves.
  • Excellent class, both Jamie and Park were extremely helpful and friendly! Would recommend it to everyone who is interested in knitting.
  • Beginning Sewing

I can't say enough good things about Ms. Veronica. I will definitely sign up for more classes.
  • Beginning Sewing

Veronica was so helpful through the whole process. I actually managed to finish my skirt in 8 weeks having come in with no previous sewing experience.
  • Beginning Sewing

I learned a lot in this class. It was actually a review for me because it has been awhile since I sewed.
  • Was a great class. Teacher was fun and knowledgeable. You make your own frame loom so you have a loom when the class is over to keep weaving. Make sure you buy the right yarn for weaving otherwise it will be a challenge.
  • Ms. Nakano Cohn is a wonderful instructor and I hope to take future classes with her.
  • Valerie was so patient while we worked on our mittens. She was very good at modeling how to do something and then having us do it. The owner, Donna, is just as wonderful. They both have inspired me to continue knitting and try harder projects.
  • My class was amazing. I learned so much! And my instructor was amazing too. Definitely recommend this course!
  • I love the class. I love the teacher and the location. I learned to knit! My daughter learned to knit! Mission accomplished!
  • Sewing - Step Beyond Beginner

Veronica is great! It’s a fun easy going class. I loved it!
  • This class was great! I will definitely be taking more classes with Donna.
  • Textile Art: Print, Embroidery, & Dyes (Online)

Loved the class and Spudnik Press. Tara, the instructor, was very helpful and knowledgeable. And she patiently worked with each student and their projects. Will definitely be going back for open studio time to keep printing and experimenting. Thanks Tara !!
  • If you’re fortunate enough to take a class with Tammy, you’ll be forever thankful. She is extraordinary. Please seek out her website (tlddesigns.com) to stir your creative soul. You will find yourself wanting to sign up for tons of artful adventures at one of her two locations. I know I will be spending as much time there as my piggy bank will permit. ~ Tina R.
  • Leather Surface Design

Great place to take hands-on art classes and give your creativity a outlet. The teacher Ausrine has a small studio tucked away on a side street in Evanston. She is outstanding - very strong teacher with a great outlook, encouraging and very positive attitude. You'll leave feeling uplifted. I will definitely be back for more classes.
  • Leather Surface Design

This is an excellent art studio! I have had the best experience and learned so much on the art of wet felting and always leave with the most beautiful one of a kind hand felted scarf or wearable piece of art. Ausrine is such a knowledgeable and patient teacher and shares her enthusiasm and many talents in such a way that helps you to be excited and creative. You will love taking a workshop or a one on one hands-on class that will keep you coming back again and again. I will continue to be inspired and take more classes with Ausrine.

  • I loved Tammy and her place of business very informative and lots of fun energy.
  • So much fun and I learned lots. Maybe the class could be 3 hours long!
  • Tammy is an excellent teacher!!
  • Tammy's class is so informative, fun, creative, and well worth the $. Love the final outcome and the process was really interesting and not too hard (with Tammy's help). Highly recommend.
  • Very informative. Had a great time with our instructor and would go back for more instruction.
  • The instructor was the best, very informational
  • This class was more than I expected. The instructor was knowledgeable in many types of art genres, her teaching was hands on and she explained why through every step. She was generous in her teaching, time and spirit. Already looking at my calendar for another class under her instruction.
  • Sewing - Step Beyond Beginner

Veronica the class instructor is very patient, knowledgeable and keeps the class going at a steady pace. Loved the class and the other students are also very helpful great atmosphere.
  • Great overview of how to work the machine and make a basic pillow case!
  • Jamie was a wonderful teacher. I liked that we could video her techniques for viewing later. I will try another class here when I get more advanced with my knitting.
  • Leather Work 101

I enjoyed every minute of the class! I'm looking forward to the next class!
  • Excellent course. Would highly recommend to anyone wanting to learn to weave or brush up on your weaving skills.
  • Donna is a fun and knowledgeable teacher who makes fiber arts accessible. The end result was exactly as desired: I was successful in my first needle felting project and feel confident to do it on my own. Thank you Donna and SisterArts Studio!
  • Very informative, fun and I came home with a lovely piece :)
  • Shibori Resist Dyeing Level 4: Batik & Clamp-Resist

This was my fourth shibori class of the series and I think my favorite. I loved them all but we learned both itjame shibori and batik in this class so we had twice as many finished pieces to take home. I'm so excited with my new found knowledge I can't wait to try some of the dyeing techniques on my own!
  • Shibori Resist Dyeing Level 2: Stitching

Christian is as great instructor and very knowledgeable about fabric dyeing and shibori. He taught us many variations of the technique we were learning and also showed us examples of his own work. I look forward to taking more classes with Christian!
