Well, there are many types and many uses; spoons can be units of measure – teaspoons, tablespoons, some people collect souvenir spoons, and they can even be used as musical instruments and yada yada yada. But primarily, spoons represent access to the most basic nourishment – a warm cup of soup, a hearty bowl of oatmeal, and a simple dish of rice and beans, all consumed with a spoon. And as we know, too many neighbors and families don't always have food for their spoons. Almost forgot -the serving spoons, the mother of all table utensils, which you might (most likely) create in this class.
Historically, spoons have been found with ancient Egyptian artifacts, unearthed with treasures from the Neolithic civilizations, and found with relics used during the Shang Dynasty.
What you'll learn:
In this class, you'll immerse yourself into the DIY culture and unveil your creative genius. First, we'll look through inspiration books and different methods for making your spoons. Then, with our guidance, you will make 3-5 functional art pieces you can use on your table. Finally, you'll choose from various unique-house glazes, and one of our ceramicists will apply them once the clay is dried and ready for firing. You can pick up your creations 4-5 weeks after the class. We'll email you once they are ready.
Bring a loved one, a parent, a daughter/son, a partner, or a friend (sorry, we don't take pets yet, support animals, ok), and multiply the fun by as many spoons as you make. The energy in the studio is positive, supportive, educational, and fun.
This highly experiential workshop has a holistic learning, making, and transforming approach.
Included:
Wear clothes that can get messy and dirty with clay.
Cancellations made 8+ days before the event will receive a 50% refund. Non-refundable before seven days.
