Ebru is the Turkish art of painting on water. You drop pigment onto a tray of thickened water, comb and draw it into a pattern, then lay your paper or fabric on the surface — the whole design transfers in one lift. It takes a minute to make and no two ever come out the same.
Every booking includes paper printing, so you always leave with a print. Book a silk scarf, twilly, handkerchief, tote bag, hat, ceramic piece or light box and you print your design onto that too — we set the colors and iron it dry before you go, so it comes home finished.
What to expect:
1 Settle in
- Arrive about 10 minutes early, put an apron on and take a tray of your own. Wear something you don’t mind a splash on — marbling is water and pigment.
2 Ebru in five minutes
- Your instructor explains where the art comes from and what is in front of you: ox-gall pigments, thickened water, a horsehair brush, a comb and a needle.
3 Watch a pattern appear
- The instructor makes one in front of you — drops, then the comb, then the needle — so you can see how the colors behave before you touch the water.
4 Make your own
- 30–45 minutes at your own tray. Scatter the colors, rake them into waves, pull a flower out with the needle. If you don’t like it, skim it off and start again.
5 Lift the print
- Lay your paper on the water and peel it back — the pattern comes away in one piece and the tray is clear for the next one. Paper printing is included with every seat.
6 Print on what you booked
- Print the same way onto your silk scarf, twilly, handkerchief, tote, hat, ceramic or light box. You can also add an item at the studio if there is time and materials left.
7 Set, iron and pack
- We fix the colors and press the fabric dry while you are still there, then pack everything up. It goes home finished — ready to wear, hang or use.

- All materials, tools and an apron
- Paper printing — included with every seat
