Rehearsal Intensive: Mauritius

For actors, some of the most gratifying work happens in the rehearsal room. In this intensive, director Kimberly Senior will lead you through a rehearsal process for Mauritius by Theresa Rebeck. This class is open to actors, directors, dramaturgs, designers, and writers.

This class might be for you if you:

• Want to focus on the process, not the final product.
• Are interested in engaging with the material in terms of history and context.
• Are eager to collaborate with a diverse group of artists.
• Want to get serious this Fall with an intensive rehearsal process.

In this class, you will:

• Take on multiple scenes and perhaps multiple roles, discarding traditional ideas of casting and gender, and instead focusing on doing the work.
• Dive into this rich text together, and be asked to fearlessly jump into the world of the play on your feet and in the classroom.
• Not have rehearsal outside of class, but rather be asked to do your homework on character and script analysis as you would while rehearsing a play for production.
• Prior to class, watch a performance of the Primary Stages production of Theresa Rebeck’s Dig, and discuss this in class to gain a deeper understanding of Theresa’s work. (Tickets will be provided for students at no additional cost.)

By the end of this class, you will have:

• The tools to effectively communicate with your scene partners and tackle any rehearsal room.
• A deeper understanding of how and why choices get made in a process.
• Confidence to make bold choices regardless of the play or role.
• Had a lot of fun.
